  5. System Requirements
  6. ===================

  17. Installation
  18. ============
  19. Universal XTACACS Server is distributed as a ZIP file
  20. "XTACACS.ZIP".  To install, unzip it using PKUNZIP or other
  21. unzipping software to an empty directory. Start Windows and
  22. run the SETUP program in the directory where you unzip
  23. Universal XTACACS Server.  
  24.  
  25. If you are upgrading from a previous installation, the
  26. program will automatically detect the previous installation
  27. and will keep the existing user database and log file intact.
  28.  
  29. After you install the program and run it, it will ask for 
  30. a user name and password.  For the first time , login as
  31. "SuperManager" with no passowrd.

  33. Documentation
  34. =============
  35. Full product documentation is available as on-line context
  36. sensitive help and also in the file "xtacacs.wri".  On-line
  37. context sensitive help can be available any time Universal
  38. XTACACS Server is running by pressing the F1 button.
  39.  
  40. Before you use Universal XTACACS Server, you must read the
  41. and agree to the license agreement in the file "license.txt".
  42.  
  43. To register for a license, please refer to the file
  44. "register.txt".

  46. Enhancements in Ver 1.2
  47. =======================
  48. Universal XTACACS Server Ver 1.2 adds a number of important
  49. features to Ver 1.1, including :
  50.  
  51. - CHAP and ARAP support (PAP is already supported in Ver 1.1)
  52.  
  53. - Ver 1.2 includes an accounting utility to generate usage
  54.   reports from the log file.  Universal Networks will release
  55.   Source code (in Visual Basic 3.0) to registered users via 
  56.   Email upon request.  So users can customize the reports 
  57.   to fit their own needs.
  58.  
  59. - Ver 1.2 also has a Login User Monitor, which displays in
  60.   real time who are currently logged into the system.
  61.  
  62. - No pre-defined maximum number of users.  In practice, the
  63.   CPU speed, disk space and memory limits the maximum number of
  64.   users that can be used.  With 5000 users on a 486/66 with 8MB,
  65.   the average response time is around 0.6 second.

  67. - You can now disable the Universal XTACACS Server's start up
  68.   login.  This is useful if you want the XTACACS Server to start
  69.   up automatically once the server PC is powered up.  Of course
  70.   you need the XTACACS Manager privilege to configure that.

  72. - Ver 1.2 will authenticate any connection request (eg. Telnet)
  73.   using the authorized address list.  Ver 1.1 will always permit
  74.   connection requests.

  77. Registration Encouragement Features
  78. ===================================
  79. Non-registered version of Universal XTACACS Server software
  80. is distributed as shareware.  It is not free of charege.  You
  81. may to use this software for evaluation purposes without charge
  82. for a period of 30 days.  If you use this software after the
  83. 30-day evaluation period, you must register for a license to
  84. use the software by filling in the registration form and pay
  85. the required registration fee to Universal Networks.  Please
  86. refer to "register.txt" for detail registration procedures and
  87. pricing information.

  89. In terms of functionality, the non-registered version has all
  90. the functions of the registered version.  The non-registered
  91. version, however, has a reminder window which will pop up
  92. every 24 hours within the 30-day evaluation period to remind
  93. you to register.
  94.  
  95. After the 30-day period, if you continue to use the software
  96. without registration, the reminder window will pop up every
  97. 2 hours.  In addition, after the 30-day period, the reminder
  98. window will temporarily disabled Universal XTACACS Server
  99. every time it pops up until you press the "I Agree" button,
  100. so that you cannot run the server unattended.

  102. The reminder screen will go away forever once you register the
  103. software.

  105. Technical Support
  106. =================
  107. Free 1 year technical support will be offered to registered
  108. users.  Please contact Universal Networks directly for
  109. technical support.  Because of time zone differences, the
  110. recommended method of contact is by E-mail or by fax.

  112. New Version Upgrade Policy
  113. ==========================
  114. Universal Networks has the policy that any registered user
  115. is entitled to upgraded versions of the same software free
  116. of charge within the 1 year free technical support period.
  117. Thereafter, upgraded versions will be offered to registered
  118. users at special discounts.

  120. UpComing Features
  121. =================
  122. The followings are new features planned to be included in
  123. future releases of Universal XTACACS Server.  Universal
  124. Networks make no guarantee that such features will ever be
  125. implemented.  Universal Networks reserves the right of not
  126. to implement these features.  Universal Networks may change
  127. the planned features at any time without prior notice.
